A Scottsdale job

Since 1961
Breaking ground, rooted deep in the Arizona desert.
The 1960s. A handful of people stand in an open field to break ground for Scottsdale Community College. Across the Valley, a young company called Concrete Coring Company is breaking ground of its own, putting roots deep into the Arizona desert one core at a time. Nine years later the crew lines up beside a fleet of numbered trucks. We started in the sixties and never stopped growing. Scottsdale grew up. So did we, and we have been cutting here the whole way.

Then and now
A lot of things have changed over the years.

Core drilling for electrical · Scottsdale
Three holes in a block wall, marked to the quarter inch.
An electrical contractor needed conduit penetrations through a block wall: two 3″ cores and a 2½″ core, lined up under the stub-ups. The layout goes on the wall, the tape marks the zone, and the cores come out clean. No spalling, no patching, ready for the conduit the same morning.

A Scottsdale job

The Gold Dust Apartments in Scottsdale needed iron fence posts set into the top of a new block wall, so we cored a hole for every post, straight down through the cap and the grout, on the layout line. The block does not chip and the fence crew drops the posts in and grouts them. Same rig, same truck, one hole after another until the wall is done.
Hand drilling · Scottsdale

Near Shea Boulevard and 70th Street in Scottsdale, we hand drilled the footers at Cosanti Commons. Tight corners and no room for a rig, so this is hand drilling: a wet core drill, one hole at a time, each one on the layout line and at the depth called for.

Custom fabrication · Scottsdale
When the rig won’t fit, we build the bracket.
These cores had to go straight down through the top of a wall, and there was a horizontal rebar running right along the top of it. Set an anchor there and you hit the bar, so a normal drill stand was out. We fabricated a bracket in our shop, clamped the rig to the wall with it, and went to work without a single anchor in the steel. Ten cores later the job was finished and the wall was clean. If we don’t have it, we make it. That is how it has been since 1961.
- Vertical core drilling down through wall tops, curbs, barriers, and parapets, rebar or not.
- Custom brackets, plates, and stands fabricated in-house for the odd job.
- Wet cutting with slurry vacuumed as we go, so the finish stays clean.

When the concrete goes down at midnight, the cutting has to be there too.
