What is concrete wall sawing?

Wall sawing is how an opening gets cut into a concrete wall, floor, or ceiling without damaging the structure around it. A diamond blade rides on a track bolted to the wall and makes a straight, flat, exact cut through solid concrete or block. It’s the right tool for doorways, windows, HVAC and duct openings, stair and elevator openings, and structural modifications.

Our six-step wall sawing process

1. Preparation

   We prep the area around the wall or slab, set up safety measures for our operator and everyone else on site, then set the saw and connect power.

2. Verifying the layout

   We do not lay out the opening. The layout comes from your side, and it is what the cut has to match. Our technician verifies every marking on the wall before the blade touches it — dimensions, square, level and plumb, and that the corners land where the drawing says. Anything that does not add up, you hear about it before we cut, not after.

3. Cutting

   The blade is mounted on the track and guided along the marked line. We carefully cut the entire perimeter of the section being removed.

4. Ring saw, no overcuts

   A big blade run all the way into a corner overcuts past the line, into wall that is staying. We finish the corners with a ring saw instead, so the opening comes out square with nothing cut past it and nothing to patch. That is where the clean look comes from.

5. Removal

   The cut block comes out with the right equipment for its size, from a two-man lift to a machine, without dropping it through the floor.

6. Finishing

   We clean up the work area and finish any rough edges around the cut, usually with a grinder, so the opening is clean and even.
